In the event f discrepancies r ambiguity between this translatin and the Danish versin, the Danish versin shall prevail. The curriculum is divided int a sectin with general prvisins (Chapters 1-8), a prgrammespecific sectin (Chapter 9), and a sectin with descriptins f the prgramme's individual curse mdules. The student is advised t examine all three sectins in rder t get a cmplete verview f the prvisins regulating the prgramme. Chapter 9 f the Curriculum, MSc in (Chemistry), Curriculum Versin Jb prfiles Masters f Science in Chemical are trained t perfrm a variety f imprtant vcatinal functins. The typical fields f wrk include Design, planning and cmmissining f new prcess engineering plants, as well as develpment, ptimisatin and peratin f existing plants, such as plants in chemical and bichemical prductin, envirnmental upgrading, fd prductin, pharmaceutical prductin, etc. Research related t the develpment f prducts and prcesses where chemical r bitechnlgical aspects play a significant rle, such as prducts and/r prcesses f chemical prductin, birefining, energy cnversin, fd prcessing r handling f residual and waste prducts frm industry and agriculture. Research related t the develpment and ptimisatin f prcesses f chemical synthesis and their assciated catalysts. Research within the develpment f new materials with specific functinal prperties. Furthermre, emphasis is n the vcatinal functins that newly graduated engineers are expected t perfrm, and n the requirements regarding their cntinued persnal and prfessinal develpment after cmpletin f the prgrammes. A wide range f nn-chemical engineering cmpetences are required f newly graduated engineers, as described in the general sectin f the Curriculum. Graduates in chemical engineering are expected: A. t have acquired specific technical knwledge within the subject prfiles f the prgramme, rted in advanced research with an internatinal perspective. B. t be able t cmmunicate and discuss knwledge and results f scientific wrk with recipients with a variety f vcatinal cmpetences. C. t be able t understand and describe scientific prblems based n their wn r thers' research-based knwledge, and t frmulate wrking hyptheses fr scientific wrk. D. t be able t use the methds and tls assciated with the specific disciplines f the prgramme's subject prfiles in relatin t the jb prfile fr the prgramme as described in 1. E. t be able t initiate and cntribute t technical and interdisciplinary cllabratin, and t assume independent respnsibility fr their wn assignments. F. t be able t plan and pursue wn prfessinal and persnal develpment. Based n this knwledge, graduates in engineering must be able t slve cmplex technical prblems and design and implement cmplex technlgical prducts and systems in a scial cntext. These tls will enable them, n the basis f physical/chemical data, t slve cmplex technical prblems within their chsen subject prfile, and t implement the ften cmplex technical slutin t the prblem. The student acquires a high level f research knwledge and understanding as well as cmpetences t describe and cntribute technlgical and system engineering slutins within the bitechnical and envirnmental area. Mre specifically, the cmpetences may be used in cnnectin with bitechnlgical and micrbial prductin, in the prcessing f vegetable raw materials t make fds and feedstuffs, in pharmaceutical prductin, in energy prductin and in the accmplishment f envirnmental assignments. If the student decides t cmplete a 40 ECTS Master's Thesis instead, wrk n the Thesis will start in the 3 rd semester, replacing 10 ECTS wrth f elective curses. The bitechnical prgressin in the Birefining subject prfile cnsists mainly f the curses in Prtein chemistry, Technical micrbilgy, Advanced natural prduct chemistry and Envirnmental engineering fr biwaste. The curse in Prtein chemistry, tgether with the bitechnlgy cmpetences acquired at the bachelr level, prvides the basis fr the curses in Technical micrbilgy and Advanced natural prduct chemistry. The curse in Advanced natural prduct chemistry is als supprted by the bachelr level curses in general and rganic chemistry. Tgether with the curses in Scientific wrking methds and Finances, the bitechnical prgressin frms the basis fr the final Master's Thesis. If cmpletin f the Thesis includes practical labratry wrk, it will ften be apprpriate fr the student t use the pprtunity t write a 40 ECTS pints Thesis. 14 Apprved n 14 September 2010 by the Bard f Studies fr the prgrammes at the Faculty f Chapter 9 f the Curriculum, MSc in (Chemistry), Curriculum Versin Subject prfile: Functinal materials PURPOSE The subject prfile aims t ensure that graduates in engineering wh have cmpleted a prgramme in materials chemistry at SDU are able t develp and deliver slutins t cmplex prblems f material technlgy within the chemical, petrchemical, energy technlgy and materials technlgy industries, as well as t implement these slutins. The subject prfile aims t prvide a high level f internatinal research-based technical knwledge within the area f classic slid state chemistry and metallurgy, technical electrchemistry and energy cnversin, while ensuring that the candidate will be able t use and further develp the scientific methdlgy within these areas. In cmbinatin with the cmpetences acquired at the bachelr level, the subject prfile ensures that with a basis in the prfessin's scientific fundatin and practice, the Master f Science in Chemical is able t: Design, synthesise and characterise materials with specific catalytic, electrcatalytic, in-cnducting, dielectric, magnetic r ptical prperties. Make ptimum selectins f materials, based n chemical, financial and technlgical criteria. Develp cmpnents r devices such as sensrs r catalytic reactrs (including fuel cells and batteries) that use these materials. Design and implement relevant characterisatin and testing methds fr these cmpnents and devices. Cntribute t develp mdels fr and make mdel calculatins f these devices and, if required, prvide the necessary input parameters. Cntribute t integrating the devices in large technical r chemical engineering plants, and manage peratin f these.
